CEA-Retired is the only retired statewide organization to be affiliated with CEA.  It is represented on the CEA Board of Directors by its President and Vice-President as full voting board members. Membership is open to all retired teachers [as the term “teacher” is defined by the Connecticut State Teachers Retirement Board] who are receiving benefits from the Connecticut State Teachers Retirement Board. Officially organized in 2000, it has over 4,800 members and is growing rapidly in numbers and influence.

CEA-Retired is also affiliated with the National Education Association (NEA), the nation's largest professional employee organization, committed to advancing the cause of public education, and numbering 3.2 million members.  That affiliation is through the NEA-Retired organization, NEA-Retired which has approximately 150,000 members. The concurrent enrollment in CEA-Retired and NEA-Retired is required.
