Why CEA-Retired?
Print Friendly Version       Email to a Friend

One of CEA-Retired's goals is to address the interests and needs of the growing number of retired professional educators in Connecticut. When educators retire, they only retire from their schools. They didn't lose interest in the profession in which they'd been employed nor do they walk away from the many friendships that had been developed over their career.

Lobbying For Your Continued Benefits
Since educator’s are no longer members a local education association or a bargaining unit, who looks out for their pension and benefits?  State retirement laws determine the retirement allotments and benefits you receive.  The only way there can be a change in retirement is by the introduction of new or modification of existing legislation.  CEA-Retired works hand-in-hand with CEA and in conjunction with the Connecticut Teachers' Retirement Board to preserve, protect, and improve our retirement pensions & benefits.

CEA-Retired lobbies to maintain and improve retirement and health benefits for all public school employees.

  • Safeguards CEA-Retired benefits by insuring that CEA-Retired members are actively involved on grass roots member lobbyist groups.
  • Works with CEA Government Relations to evaluate candidate positions on retirement issues when interviewing and recommending candidates for political office.
  • Provides a good place for retirees to see old friends and make new ones while keeping abreast of what's happening in public education.
  • Protects STRB benefits by keeping members informed and involved in political and lobbying efforts.
  • Proposes and lobbies for STRB benefit improvements.

For more information see http://www.cea.org/lp/

Like many other retired association members, CEA-R allows retired Connecticut teachers to continue a relationship with their colleagues, local associations, and CEA. CEA-Retired is the only Connecticut organization for retired public education personnel officially affiliated with CEA and the NEA.

Continuation of Professional Educator Certificate:
Retired educators can maintain their state certification.  A special form, entitled "Application for Continuation of Professional Educator Certificate" is available on the State Department of Education Website -
