Governance at CEA
Print Friendly Version       Email to a Friend

CEA is a democratic organization. CEA members play an important role in determining the direction and focus of the Association through several elected governing bodies – from CEA officers to county directors to delegates to the CEA and NEA Representative Assemblies. This area provides information and procedures about elections to these governing bodies.

Nomination information for 2009 elections
Nomination information about open county director seats on the CEA Board of Directors, as well as one NEA Director seat, retired delegate positions for the CEA Representative Assembly (RA), and state delegates for the NEA RA are available in this section.

All nomination forms must be postmarked no later than Monday, December 1.

December 1 is the deadline for members who are interested in serving on the CEA Board of Directors. By December 1 members have to submit a nomination form to become a candidate for one of nine open county director seats. To secure a form, please e-mail or call Michelle Tine at CEA, michellet@cea.org, 860-525-5641/1-800-842-4316.

Once nominees are certified as candidates by the CEA Elections Committee, here’s how elections for these positions/offices will be held:

  • State NEA delegate election ballots will be printed in the CEA Advisor. (February 2009)
  • CEA Retired delegate elections for the CEA Representative Assembly (RA) will be conducted by first-class mail to all CEA Retired members. (February 2009)
  • Ballots for contested county director elections will be mailed to all eligible members within the county where there is an election. (March 2009)
  • Elections for NEA Director seat will be held at the CEA RA. (May 2009)

NEA Representative Assembly County Cluster Nomination Forms for 2009 elections
Nomination forms and information concerning nomination procedures concerning County Cluster delegates can be downloaded and printed from this section when available in late February. NEA requires local affiliates to have at least 76 members to be eligible to send one delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly (RA). To give local affiliates with less than 75 members the opportunity to be represented by a delegate(s), NEA allows state affiliates to organize “clusters.” CEA’s clusters are organized by counties that have local affiliates with less than 75 members.

County cluster nominations must be postmarked no later than FRIDAY, MARCH 13.

All nominations must be sent by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested.
